It was a narrow escape for former Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat when his convoy was chased by an elephant in Pauri’s Kotdwar-Dugadda highway area. A video of this incident is viral. In the video, Rawat could be seen atop a rock after having abandoned his vehicle for fear of attack by the tusker. One of his staff members reportedly stumbled into a ‘gadera’ (natural water canal) during the scramble to get out of the elephant’s path. The incident took place when Rawat was going to Kotdwar from Satpuli. Pauri’s Kotdwar-Dugadda highway area is a place where at least one human-elephant conflict incident is reported almost every month.
